ATTICA – The Moundridge football team went on the road Friday and played a seemingly solid game, they just could not stop the offense run by Argonia/Attica and lost for the fifth time in 2021, 62-34.

It was a quiet first quarter as Argonia/Attica scored the only touchdown to take an early 8-0 lead.

In the second quarter the Wildcats found the end zone on a 15-yard pass play from Henry Hecox to Logan Churchill. They were unable to convert the 2-pointer so still trailed 8-6.

With Argonia/Attica adding a score late in the quarter, Moundridge bounced back and scored again with just 12-seconds left in the first half on a 2-yard scamper by Henry Hecox to pull within two points. Unfortunately, the home folks connected on a 61-yard pass play as time expired and then added the two-point conversion giving Argonia/Attica a solid 10-point, 22-12 advantage as the two teams headed to the locker rooms for the halftime break.

Argonia/Attica added a pair of scores in the third quarter to take a more commanding 36-12 lead into the final 12 minutes of play.

The fourth quarter had some offensive fireworks as Argonia/Attica added four touchdowns to the scoreboard while Moundridge tried to keep up by scoring three as Kase Ptacek scored twice on a run and a pass play and Hecox connected with Churchill for one more passing touchdown as well.

Argonia/Attica dinged the Wildcat defense for 466 yards on 48 plays as the Wildcat defense gave up 312 yards on the ground, while Moundridge was only able to run up 202 yards on 57 offensive snaps.

Henry Hecox gave it his all at quarterback, completing 10-of-20 passes for 104 yards and three touchdowns, but he also threw three interceptions.

Ptacek led Moundridge in rushing with 72 yards on 21 carries Logan Churchill was Hecox’s favorite receiver, hitting him four times for 49 yards.

Landon Kaufman and Brayden Conquest led the Wildcat defense with eight and five tackles respectively.

Coming up next for the Wildcats will be a home game next Friday when Fairfield comes to town. Fairfield will come into the game also 1-5 for the season after losing 54-0 to Goessel on Friday.
