CANTON – The Canton/Galva football team closed out their regular season on Friday with a convincing 54-0 thrashing of Lincoln.
With the win, the Eagles finish their regular season 6-1 as they now prep to play Doniphan West next Thursday in the first round of the 8-Man Division I state playoffs.
On Friday, the Eagles put thirty-two points on the scoreboard in the first quarter including two scoring runs of seventeen and twenty-three yards from Ryder Norstrom, a four-yard scoring jog by Garrett Maltbie and a fifty-yard pass connection from Maltbie to Tyson Struber. Maltbie ran for three and Norstrom one of the four completed two-point conversions.
In the second quarter, Canton/Galva put up another twenty-two points on a fifteen-yard pass from Maltbie to TJ Koehn, a twelve-yard run by Maltbie and a two-yard plunge from Jory Ratzlaff.
Defensively the Eagles played lights out as they held Lincoln to just twelve yards of total offense on twenty-four offensive snaps. This including a mind bending four total yards rushing on twenty-one carries. The Eagles combined for eight plays in which they tackled Lincoln runners for a loss of yardage.
Xavier Westbrook led the Eagle defense with five tackles while Tyson Struber had a pair of stops for a loss of yardage.
On offense, Canton/Galva, Garrett Maltbie provided 163 yards in total offense with fifty-one yards rushing on five carries while he completed seven-of-twelve passes for another 112 yards. Ryder Norstrom was the leading rusher for the Eagles with seventy yards on just four carries while Tyson Struber covered eighty-four yards on four pass receptions.
