SMITH CENTER – While Inman gave up their first two touchdowns of the season on Friday in a battle of 2021 Class 1A titans, the second-ranked Teutons still managed to go on the road and soundly beat the third-ranked and previously unbeaten team in the state Smith Center, 38-15.

With the victory, the Teutons remain unbeaten at 8-0 on the season and will now get a bye in the first week of the state playoffs before facing either Oakley or Elkhart at home the following week.

Inman made the first strike on the scoreboard when Jace Doerksen pranced in from three yards out in the first quarter and after Kendyn Blank ran in for the two-point conversion, the Teutons had an early 8-0 lead.

Smith Center bounced back to tie the score at 8-8 in the second quarter before the Teutons Doerksen connected with Kendyn Blank for a twenty-nine-scoring pass play. After Doerksen ran in for the two-point conversion, the Teutons headed to the halftime break once again on top, 16-8.

Neither team found the end zone in the third quarter before Inman rattled off three straight scores in the fourth stanza on a one-yard plunge from Doerksen, a forty-seven-yard dash by Tanner Heckel and the final Teuton score with an eighty-yard pass connection from Doerksen to Harrison Brunk.

Smith Center did add one more score on the board late as Inman scored the 38-15 victory.

First the first time all season the Inman defense gave up a lot of yards while not bending enough to get beat as Smith Center needed fifty-five running plays to gain 235 yards while they only attempted one pass play the entire game. Leading the Teuton defensive effort was Jace Doerksen and Tanner Heckel who each recorded double digits in total tackles while Dawson Mannebach dropped the opponent runners twice for a loss of yardage as part of his nine tackles in the game.

Offensively, totaled 343 yards on fifty offensive snaps with Doerksen leading the Teutons as he completed seventeen-of-twenty-two passes for 240 yards and the two touchdowns. He also ran for two scores though Tanner Heckel had the best rushing totals with fifty-seven yards on six carries. Harrison Brunk had the best yards catching the ball with eighty-seven on two receptions while Heckel caught six passes good for sixty-one yards and Kendyn Blank took four catches for thirty-eight yards.
