LINDSBORG – The Smoky Valley football team continues to record a solid 2021 season by earning win number five on Friday night when Russell came to town and the Vikings recorded a 35-0 shutout victory.

The Vikings put one score on the board in the first quarter on a 22-yard scamper by Trystan Stambaugh with Justice Autry running for the two-point conversion, giving Smoky Valley the early 8-0 advantage.

Stambaugh, Autry and Karson Pihl each scored in the second quarter on runs of twenty-four, forty-four, and five yards, respectively. Autry ran for one two-point conversion giving the Vikings a commanding 28-0 lead heading into the halftime break.

While Smoky Valley continued to dominate the time clock, they did not add the final score on the board until the final 12-minutes of action when Kade Blanchat rumbled in from five yards out. Trevor Jones kicked the extra-point, giving the Vikings their final 35-0 shutout victory.

The Viking defense held Russell to just eighty yards on thirty-one offensive plays led by Max Bieker with five tackles and Ethan Able with four.

Smoky Valley’s offense dominated the game as they had the ball for nearly 34 minutes total while rolling up 369 yards of offense on sixty-seven snaps, including 298 yards on the ground on sixty carries. The Vikings also recorded twenty-two first downs in the game.

Karson Pihl completed four-of-seven passes good for seventy-one yards for Smoky Valley.

Leading the ground attack as the two-headed monster of Trystan Stambaugh and Justice Autry. Stambaugh ran for 117 yards on twenty-one carries while Autry covered 111 yards on nineteen totes.

With the victory the Vikings are now 5-3 on the season and sitting in third place for district seeding in the state playoffs behind unbeaten Southeast of Saline and Colby.

Smoky Valley will open the Class 3A playoffs with a road trip to Chapman on Friday to face the Fighting Irish who are now 6-2 after upsetting 10-ranked Concordia on Friday evening 42-26.
