WICHITA – The dynamic cross-country duo for Canton/Galva of Christian Darrah and Morgan Becker continue to represent the school with banner type seasons as they ran first and third on Saturday at the Class 1A regional meet held in Wichita at the Cessna Activity Center.

Darrah ran a time of 17:13 to take first in the regional for the Eagles while Becker continued his work of getting back in form from a lengthy illness by finishing third with a run of 17:57.

Garrett Silsby and Ethan Alkire also ran for the Eagles with Silsby finishing 32nd with a time of 21:09 and Alkire placing 71st with a run of 26:41.

“Christian (Darrah) continued his solid senior campaign today by finished first at the Class 1A Regionals in Wichita,” noted Eagle head coach Lyle Silsby. “He looked really strong the entire race and hopefully can keep this form for one more week so we can see how he performs at the state meet.”

Leading from the start of the race, Darrah never looked back and continually stayed ahead of runner-up Blake Yoder of Hutchinson Central Christian before finished twenty-five seconds ahead of him at the end.

Becker, who missed several weeks early in the season due to an illness, ran a fine race and finished third.

Coach Silsby concluded his post regional meet reflections by saying, “Morgan (Becker) ran third the entire race and was able to pull away from the fourth-place runner in the last mile. Garrett (Silsby) ran his best race of the season and even passed a number of runners in the last half of a mile. As a team we finished fifth, falling one place short of qualifying the entire team for state.”

Both Christian Darrah and Morgan Becker will run at the Class 1A State Cross Country Meet next Saturday in Victoria.
