CANTON – Despite coming in unbeaten, Sedan never stood a chance with the Canton/Galva football team on Friday night in Canton as the Eagles dominated and buried the visitors 52-6 to win their state quarter-final matchup.

With the victory, the Eagles are now 10-1 for the season and will play their state semi-final game on the road in a rematch with Little River the current defending state 8-Man Division I state champion and currently unbeaten on the season. The Redskins reached the semi-finals by coming back from a 10-point deficit to beat previously unbeaten Madison 38-32.

Seven weeks past in week five of the season on October 1, Little River handed the Eagles their only loss on the season as they won 60-52 in an offensive slugfest.

On Friday evening, Canton/Galva jumped out to a 22-0 advantage in the opening 12-minutes of play as all-state Tyson Struber scored three times, once on a one-yard run and twice on scoring pass plays from Garrett Maltbie of 14- and 15-yards.

After Sedan put a score on the board early in the second quarter, the Eagles came back with two more touchdowns, both on scoring runs of five yards by Garrett Maltbie to give them a commanding 38-6 lead going into the halftime break.

The Eagles then came out a put a score on the board in their first possession of the third quarter as Ryder Norstrom put his name in the score book on an eight-yard run before Cason Mastre took a pass from Maltbie and rambled to the end zone from 57-yards out to end the game by the point rule at 52-8 with 5:05 left in the third quarter.

Tyson Struber’s 8.5 tackles led a very stingy Canton/Galva defense that held Sedan to just 109 yards in total offense on thirty-one offensive plays which included just thirty-five yards passing on five pass completions.

Offensively, the Eagles averaged 7.8 yards per forty-seven plays, good for a total of 368 yards.

Garrett Maltbie had 293 yards in total offense as he completed 15-of-22 passes for 222 yards while running the ball eleven times for another seventy-one yards and having a part in five of the Eagles seven scores. Cason Mastre and Struber were each on the end of seven of those pass completions with Mastre covering 130 yards and Struber picking up eighty-two.
