INMAN – In a game that looked even on the stat sheet, the Inman Teutons remained unbeaten on Friday by outscoring Conway Springs 26-13 to win their Class 1A quarter-final matchup and advance to the state semi-finals. The win gives Inman an 11-0 mark for the season.

This will be the second season in a row that the Teutons have reached the state semi-finals with unbeaten Sedgwick laying ahead for them next Friday. Sedgwick will enter the game also unblemished at 11-0 for the season after nipping Smith Center 49-48 on Friday.

If the Teutons win and make the state championship game, they will tangle with the winner the other semi-final matchup between Olpe (11-0) and Centralia (9-2).

Inman put the first points on the board in the first quarter when they drove down to where Kyler Konrade pushed across the goal line from one-yard out to give the Teutons an early 6-0 lead after failing at the two-point conversion.

Conway Springs, with their old-style single wing offense, put a score on the board later in the quarter and then made an extra point kick to take a 7-6 lead, a lead they held into the halftime break as neither team could get into the end zone in the second 12-minutes of play.

The Teutons took control of the game in the third quarter when Jace Doerksen connected with Harrison Brunk for a 29-yard throwing touchdown while Kyler Konrade got his second score of the game on a 12-yard jaunt across the goal line. Tanner Heckel ran for one of the two-point conversions to give Inman a commanding 20-7 advantage heading into the final quarter of the game.

Conway Springs pulled back to within a touchdown when they scored on a two-yard run early in the fourth quarter but failed to make their two-point conversion to leave them trailing 20-13. Another long drive resulted in a one-yard plunge into the end zone by Jace Doerksen to give the Teutons their final 26-13 victory.

The Inman defense did give up 269 yards rushing to Conway Springs old style play but held them to just six yards passing for a total of just 275 yards on sixty-five snaps.

Kyler Konrade led the Teuton defense with 10.5 tackles while Jace Doerksen recorded nine, Tanner Heckel had seven and Zachary Martisko had 6.5. Kendyn Blank and Heckel each recorded a pass interception.

On offense, Inman rolled up 351 yards on fifty offensive plays with 131 of those coming through the air thanks to Jace Doerksen completing eight of nine passes. Harrison Brunk had three catches for seventy-one yards to lead the receivers.

Doerksen recorded another seventy-three yards running the ball on just six carries while Kendyn Blank ran for fifty-four on ten totes and Tanner Heckel had fifty-one yards on nine carries.
