INMAN – After finishing the 2020-21 season just one win over .500 at 11-10, the Inman Teuton boys basketball team will be looking at the prospect of having an advantage in size inside the paint to lead them to a hopeful trip to the state tournament.

Of course, Teuton head coach Brett Froese has just one thing he must wait on – the Teuton football team. Most of the entire Inman basketball team as of this write were still working on their football season as they were unbeaten and getting ready for the Class 1A state semi-finals.

When the guys do get on the hardwood, it appears size could be an advantage for the Teutons as they will put senior Dawson Mannebach and sophomore Zach Martisko under the basket and the pair will fill it well as they stand six-foot-three and six-foot-two, respectively.

“We will have a good tandem inside for us with Dawson and Zach,” noted Teuton coach Brett Froese. “They will give us something we were missing last season, size.”

While Inman did graduate long time starter Derrick Johnson, except for his 6.0 points per game, the Teutons will return most of their scoring.

Among the returnees will be sophomore Tanner Heckel who had a spectacular freshman season where he made first team All-Heart of America and honorable mention all-state. Second team All-Heart of America Jace Doerksen also returns for his senior season and like in football, has been entrenched in the starting lineup for several seasons.

According to Coach Froese, “I really like this group of kids and think they will be super fun to watch. If we can shoot it well from the outside and our guards can continue to get the ball to the rim like last season, it will be a fun and successful season.”

If all the components come together in 2021-22, the Teuton team on the hardwood could make as much noise as the Teuton team has been doing on the turf.
