LINCOLN = They played like they were the top-ranked team in Class 1A as they are on Friday as the Little River Lady Redskins dominated their season opening road game at Lincoln, winning handily 60-25.

Little River dominated from the opening tip as they ran out to an 11-point, 19-8 lead by the end of the first quarter before pushing the lead to twenty-three points at 38-15 going into the halftime break.

The Lady Redskins came out in the second half and extended the lead to twenty-seven by the end of the third before cruising in for the final 35-point, 60-25 victory.

Scary for future opponents could be the fact that Little River crushed Lincoln in such fashion without their top player as pre-season all-state recognized Lily Boughfman did not play.

“We played okay for the first game of the season,” pointed out Lady Redskin head coach Brent Clark. “It was obvious that we have some things to work on. We had several girls step up and play well, including two freshmen, Elsie Boughfman and Chenzie DeBaere. Overall, it was an effective team effort on both the offensive and defensive ends of the court.”

For the game, the Lady Redskins connected on 47% of their shots (25/53) from the field while pulling down twenty-nine rebounds and making a whopping twenty-nine steals on defense. Sixteen of the teams twenty-five shots made came off an assist.

While senior MeKenzie Renken led the Lady Redskins in scoring with twelve points, freshman Chenzie DeBaere, sophomores Alaina Eck and Aubrey Olander and freshman Elsie Boughfman were the next four top scorers with eleven, ten, nine, and eight points, respectively as nine girls puts points in the scorebook.

Aubrey Olander, Ashley Stephenson (another sophomore), and Elsie Boughfman also led the team in the paint with five rebounds each.
