LINCOLN = Playing without their top two returnees, the Little River boys were still able to take command and dominate their season opening game with Lincoln on the road Friday as they stormed out to a 59-35 win.

Already beginning to work on a season without graduated all-state, all-everything Jayden Garrison and his sidekick Graham Stephens, the Redskins found themselves also playing without the two top returning players in Braxton Lafferty and Rylan Konen as both finished banged up at the end of the football season which just finished six days ago.

With a roster full of underclassman, the Redskins stumbled a bit in the first quarter, tying Lincoln 6-6 before putting twenty points on the board in the second quarter to take a commanding 14-point, 26-12, lead into the halftime break.

In the second half, the Redskins outscored the Lions 17-14 in the third and 16-9 in the final quarter to earn the final 24-point, 59-35 victory.

The one player available with a lot of previous varsity experience, junior Dalton Mantz led the team in scoring with twelve points while fellow juniors Gabe Walton and Treyton Olander put 11 and 10 points in the scorebook, respectively. Both Logan Renken and Corbin Herbst just missed reaching double digits with each scoring eight points.

Next up for the Redskin boys will be on Monday as they battle Elyria Christian in the first round of the Goessel Bluebird Classic.
