INMAN = Despite a lot of fight, turnovers hampered the Inman girls basketball team on Friday as they lost their 2021-22 season opener to Minneapolis, 44-39, at home.
The visitors held a slim three-point, 14-11, lead at the end of the first quarter before pulling out to a six-point, 24-18, advantage entering the halftime break.
The Lady Teutons played Minneapolis even in the third quarter before losing with the final five-point deficit.
“We outscored them in the second half,” noted Lady Teuton head coach Megan Heckel. “But it was not enough to get a win. We struggled on defense in boxing out and had some really bad turnovers. These are things we can fix. Overall, they hustled and played hard the entire game.”
Hannah Martisko was the offensive bright spot for Inman as she led the team in scoring with 12 points while both Kambrey Woods and Kadence Welch each chipped in with eight. Martisko also hit the boards and grabbed seven rebounds while Welch pulled in six despite only playing two quarters due to foul trouble.
