GOESSEL – The Little River girls basketball continues on a roll to open the 2021-22 season as they won their third straight game on Tuesday when they dominated host Goessel 50-21, in their second game of the Bluebird Classic.
“We played a really good first half,” pointed out Lady Redskin head coach Brent Clark. “We shared the ball really well and only had five turnovers. In the second half, we came out and didn’t show the energy we played with in the first half as we got complacent and did not play as aggressive as we normally do.”
The Lady Redskins powered out to a 21-4 lead by the end of the first quarter and took a commanding 32-point, 39-7 lead into the halftime break before coming out in the final two quarters and cruising in for the final 29-point, 50-21 victory.
Little River dominated in the paint by grabbing 45 rebounds, including 30 on the defensive end to go with 15 second chance rebounds on the offensive end.
Lily Boughfman had a big night as she led the Lady Redskins by putting 16 points on the scoreboard while just missing a double-double with nine rebounds. Aubrey Olander joined her in double digits with 11 points while grabbing seven rebounds herself to go with a pair of steals and a blocked shot.
The younger Boughfman, Elsie, just missed a possible double-double as she connected on two three-pointers which propelled her to score nine points while matching her older sister with nine rebounds. Elsie also collected a pair of steals and blocked two shots as well. MeKenzie Renken may not have scored, but she led the offense by dishing out five assists.
Coach Clark concluded his post-game reflections by adding, “I Thought Lily (Boughfman) had another great game, but all the girls played well and that is why we have been so successful in the early season. We are going to have to play a complete game on Saturday if we want to win the championship game against Central Christian as they are a very good team and very well coached.”
