MOUNDRIDGE – It got messy early on Tuesday as the Inman boys basketball team tried to keep up with defending state champion Hillsboro in the first round of the Moundridge Preseason Tournament with the Trojans winning by 28, 65-37.

The Teuton only trailed by seven, 18-11, at the end of the first quarter until Hillsboro outscored Inman 15-4 in the second quarter to take a commanding 33-15 lead going into the halftime break.

While Inman managed to get 12 points on the board in the third quarter, Hillsboro put up 26 to increase their lead to 32 points before settling for the final 28 point winning margin.

“We just got our doors blown off tonight,” explained Teuton head coach Brett Froese. “They were ready to play and we were not and that didn’t work out for us to well tonight. They were faster, more physical, and just downright more aggressive than us and I am not making any more excuses about our practice time or our physical shape. Tonight we just got blown out as they were better than us in every phase of the game.”

Jace Doerksen led the Teuton offense by hitting three three-pointers on his way to a team leading 11 points while TJ Froese and Tanner Heckel were the only others close to double digits with eight points each.

Next up for the Teutons will be a tangle with Lyons on Thursday in their second game of the Moundridge Preseason Tournament.
