MOUNDRIDGE – The Moundridge boys played consistent ball and scored a 10-point, 46-36, victory over Lyons in their first game of the Moundridge Preseason Tournament on Tuesday.

“We lacked the ‘extra’ tonight at both ends of the floor,” said Wildcat head coach Vance Unrau in his post-game reflections. “Give Lyons credit, they hung tough and gave themselves a chance until we were able to get some stops and shoot free throws to pull away. We are going to have to have more desire to be disciplined in our execution of the offense and take what the defense gives us.”

After holding a three-point first quarter lead at 11-8, and a 27-17 advantage at the halftime break, the Wildcats let Lyons back into the game as they chipped away at the deficit and only trailed by three at 33-30 heading into the final quarter of play where the Wildcats were able to put the win away.

Landon Kaufman topped the Wildcats on offense with 16 points while Logan Churchill also reached double digits with 14. Barrett Moddelmog contributed eight as well.

Churchill gave the Wildcats a body in the paint and pulled down six rebounds while both Moddelmog and Joseph Schrag each grabbed five. Joseph Lane had the quick hands on defense and recorded five steals.

The Wildcat boys now prep for a Thursday matchup with defending state champion Hillsboro.
