MCPHERSON – If you played just the second and fourth quarters the McPherson boys would have won, unfortunately you must play well in the first and third quarters as well and they did not, giving Andover the edge and an 18-point, 72-54 victory in the Roundhouse on Friday.
The Trojans jumped out to a nine-point, 16-7 lead by the end of the first quarter and despite the two teams playing even up in the second, the Bullpups still trailed at halftime by nine at 33-24.
Coming out of the halftime break, Andover was red hot on offense as they put 27 points in the scorebook to just 11 for McPherson to take a sizable 25-point advantage into the final eight minutes of play.
The Bullpups tried their best to catch up but could only pull to within the final 18-point deficit.
While the Bullpups shot a respectable 42% from the field, the Trojans hit at a 54% clip, including 42% of their three-point attempts.
Andover held a solid nine rebound advantage in the paint as the Trojans grabbed 34 to the Bullpups 25.
Senior Seth Madron led the Bullpups with a near double double as he put 18 points on the board while grabbing a team leading eight rebounds plus still finding time to make four steals on defense.
Mason Miller, a junior, also reached double figures in the score column with 10 while both Cory Muehler and Kreighton Kanitz each chipped in with seven.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR BULLPUPS?
The loss drops the Bullpups to just 1-2 for the first week of the season as they now prep to host El Dorado at home in the Roundhouse on Tuesday.
