GOESSEL – After losing their first two games in the Bluebird Classic, the Little River boys bounced back with an overpowering performance that turned into a commanding 26-point, 69-43 win over Burrton on Saturday to finish fifth in the Classic.
Both teams played to a 14-14 stalemate in the first quarter before the Redskins were able to gain a slim six-point, 32-26 advantage going into the intermission.
The final two quarters were all Little River as they outscored Burrton 19-6 in the third and 18-11 in the fourth to earn the commanding 69-43 final victory.
Two stats that helped Little River were the 10 made three-pointers they had to go along with 40 rebounds while the team effort showed up with 18 assists made on 27 made field goals.
Nine Redskins put at least two points in the scorebook with Treyton Olander and Rylan Konen both reaching double digits with 16 and 12 points, respectively. Andrew Smith and Ryan Loder just missed making it four in double figures as they both chipped in with nine points and Logan Renken hit for eight.
Even the 10 made three pointers were a shared effort as five different Redskins hit for a pair of threes.
Dalton Mantz may have only put four points on the scoreboard, but he led the team in important stats like pulling down 10 rebounds and dishing out a team leading six assists while making four steals on defense.
Andrew Smith nearly had a double as he grabbed eight rebounds to go with his nine points while he also made three key steals on defense.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR “AREA TEAM”?
Now sitting at just 2-2 for the season, the Redskins look to stay in the win column on Tuesday when they go on the road and battle Moundridge.
