SHAWNEE MISSION – Never giving up, the McPherson boys pulled off a wild and stunning come from behind win on Saturday when they scored a three-point, 57-54, win on the road over Basehor/Linwood, the current fourth-ranked team in Class 5A.

Basehor/Linwood took the advantage early seven-point, 13-6 lead at the end of the first quarter and despite the Bullpups putting up 20 points on the scoreboard in the second quarter, still held a five-point, 31-26, lead when the two teams headed to the halftime break.

With the help of a pair of three-pointers by Owen Pyle, McPherson came out of the break and went on a 10-0 run which not only helped get the Bullpups back into the game but put them ahead by one point at 41-40 over the Bobcats as they entered the final eight minutes of play.

In the final quarter, the Bullpups held on and with the help of two critical free throws in the final seconds of the game by Cory Muehler, they held on for the 57-54 victory.

In a post-game radio interview, Bullpup head coach Kurt Kinnamon was heard to say, ‘It was good to get a good win. I thought we had a number of guys play better than they’ve played previously, especially at shooting.’

With the lack of much height on the roster, the Bullpup fans had to wonder when Mason Miller left the game early with an injury, but fortunately Sam Becker came in a played some highly valuable minutes and even put five points in the scorebook.

Owen Pyle had a Bullpup career game as he led the team in scoring with 18 which included four three-pointers while steady Seth Madron had 16 and Muehler chipped in with 14.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR BULLPUPS?

With the victory, the Bullpups now have a 3-2 record for the young season as they prep for a rival battle with Buhler at home in the Roundhouse on Tuesday.
