MCPHERSON – The number of positive Covid-19 cases within McPherson County took a huge jump in the past week as a new report released late Tuesday by the McPherson County Health Department (MCHD) showed an increase of 224 new cases since the report a week earlier.
The first report for 2022 showed that McPherson County now has had an overall total of 5,735 cases of Covid-19/Coronavirus with 5,385 currently considered recovered.
Another number that took a dramatic uptick was those listed as active cases as it now stands at 251 according to the MCHD. This was 117 more than the previous week.
Good news came with the number of current individuals hospitalized due the virus still stands at 12 and no new deaths were reported.
Of the 224 new cases, 47 came from those aged 60 and older while 45 were individuals aged 18-29, 41 aged 30-39 and 33 for those aged 40-49. The only age group with less than 30 new cases was those aged 50-59 as those under the age of 17 saw a rise of 30 new cases.
The percentage of those fully vaccinated county residents rose slightly by .3% since the previous week and now stands at 53.4%.
Breakthrough cases stand at 513 while the Positivity Rate for McPherson County according to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) stood at 18.04% as of December 26. This showed a rise of 1.37% since their previous report.
