BURRTON – It was a rough night on Monday for the Canton/Galva girls as they played at Burrton and due to foul trouble and poor shooting, came home with a 19-point loss, 26-17.

The Lady Eagles struggled from the field as they hit just 18% of all their shots and only 14% from inside the three-point arc. Burrton even had issues shooting from the outside as they hit just one-of-twelve from past the three-point line but managed to make several key second chance opportunities as they grabbed a whopping 19 offensive rebounds.

Burrton took a quick six-point, 12-6 lead by the end of the first quarter and led Canton/Galva by eight, 17-9, at the halftime break before pulling away in the final two quarters to get the final 19-point victory.

“Our girls played hard,” explained Lady Eagle head coach Brad Crump. “Their depth got to us at the end of the game and that had a lot to do with our offensive/defensive subbing while (Lili) Espinoza was in foul trouble in the second half.”

That was one of the main stories of the game, the fact that two of the Lady Eagles top players ran into foul trouble as Sage Toews fouled out and Lili Espinoza played much of the second half with four fouls.

Brecken Pearson had the big game for the Lady Eagles as she led the team in scoring, grabbed four rebounds, and dished out a pair of assists.

Sage Toews and Red Craig led the work in the paint with five rebounds each while Espinoza and Mimi Craig each pulled down four.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR the LADY EAGLES?

The loss drops the Lady Eagles to 1-7 for the season as they have a quick turn around and host Elyria Christian on Tuesday before going back on the road Friday to Goessel.
