MCPHERSON – The grim reality is that McPherson County is getting another wave of Covid cases as the report released on Thursday afternoon by the McPherson County Health Department (MCHD) saw an increase of 149 new positive cases since Tuesday.

With the increase of 149 cases plus what was reported on Tuesday, the County has had 420 new cases in the past week, 534 since the first report of 2022 on Tuesday, January 4.

One sobering reality is the update the MCHD made in those individuals who died from Covid or complications caused by it, as the Thursday report now shows 111 deaths, an increase of 11 since the first of the year.

Overall, McPherson County has now totaled 6,269 cases of Covid and currently has 590 cases considered active, an increase of 111 since Tuesday’s report. The report showed that as of Thursday, 5,568 are considered recovered.

Hardest hit age group in the latest report are those ages 0-17 with 34 new cases followed by ages 18-29 with 33, ages 60 and over with 26 and those aged 40-49 with 21.

Although the number of those that have required hospitalizations is up to 273, only six (6) are currently in the hospital due to Covid.

Fully vaccinated individuals within McPherson County remains at 53.7% while those breakthrough cases rose from 574 to 597.
