MCPHERSON – McPherson County continues to see an upswing in Covid-19 cases as the McPherson County Health Department (MCHD) released its newest report on Tuesday and it showed 293 new cases since the report released on Thursday.

The new cases brings the total of McPherson County cases overall to 7,136 and 1,311 new cases in the first month of 2022.

Currently there are 650 active cases with 6,373 individuals considered as having recovered from the illness.

While the number of county individuals that required hospitalization rose to 289, an increase of six, the number currently in the hospital due to Covid-19 is at four.

Unfortunately, two more individuals were listed as having died from Covid-19 or complications from it. This brings the overall total of 113 McPherson County residents having had died from Covid-19. The two individuals who passed away were aged 50-59 and 60-69.

The largest aged group of individuals testing positive came from those 0-17 with 56 while those aged 18-29 had 55 test positive and those aged 30-39 had 54 with those over the age of 60 having 50 new cases.

Those individuals considered full vaccinated rose by .1% to 54.1% and breakthrough cases was up to 783.

As of the week of January 16, 2022, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment reported that McPherson County had a positivity rate of 41.18%.
