FAIRFIELD – After having a week off due to illnesses, the Canton/Galva girls returned to the hardwood on Monday, playing at the Fairfield Tournament and lost to Burrton by 25, 52-27.
Burrton jumped out ahead of the Lady Eagles 18-6 by the end of the first quarter and while Canton/Galva outscored Burrton in the second quarter they still trailed by 11, 32-21 going into the halftime break.
Coming out of the intermission the Lady Eagles put up a goose egg in the third quarter and only scored six points in the final eight minutes of play, giving Burrton the final 25-point victory.
“I thought we played a great second quarter after digging ourselves a hole in the first,” noted Lady Eagle head coach Brad Crump. “Went from a great second quarter to a dreadful third quarter. Burrton is so well coached; they have a heck of a shooter and we left her open, and she made us pay for it with five three-pointers and 23 points. We have some things we need to fix today and tomorrow in practice.”
Leading the way for the Lady Eagles was Mimi Craig with 10 points while Lily Espinoza chipped in with eight.
The Lady Eagles will return to the Fairfield Tournament on Thursday for their second game which will be against Goessel.
