FAIRFIELD – For the second time this week at the Fairfield Tournament, the Little River girls made easy work of their game as Thursday they propelled themselves into the championship game on Friday when they hammered host Fairfield by 31 points, winning 49-18.

The Lady Redskins jumped out to a 13-point, 19-6 lead by the end of the first quarter and extended the lead to 27 at 34-7 by the time they reached the halftime break. Coming out of the break Little River cruised in for the final 31-point victory.

“We played another very good defensive game tonight,” pointed out Lady Redskin head coach Brent Clark. “Our defense is getting better with every game.”

Despite shooting just 35% from the field the Lady Redskins dominated the scoreboard by holding Fairfield to less than 10 points in two quarters and less than five in the other two.

Lily Boughfman led the Lady Redskins offense with 13 points while Aubrey Olander chipped in with 10 and MeKenzie Renken scored eight.

Nine different Lady Redskins helped in the paint by grabbing at least one or two rebounds with Olander topping the team stats by pulling down six while both Lily Boughfman and Raelynn Welsh each grabbed five and Renken and Elsie Boughfman had four each.

Coach Clark concluded his post-game reflections by adding, “Elsie (Boughfman) did a great job of shutting down their leading scorer, with help from others. Our defense helps us get into our transition offense. Very proud of how all the girls are improving on our man defense.”

With the win the Lady Redskins are now 11-1 on the season and will play the winner of the matchup between Wichita Independent and Burrton for the tournament championship.
