INMAN – After hanging close for a little over a quarter, the Inman boys could not keep up with visiting Cheney on Tuesday at home and lost by 20, 61-41.

The Teutons held a slim two-point, 15-13 lead at the end of the first quarter before the wheels came off and Cheney poured 22 points on the board in the second quarter while holding Inman to just nine, giving the visitors an 11-point, 35-24 advantage going into the halftime break.

After falling behind by as much as 24 points in the third quarter, the Teutons chiseled a few points off the lead in the fourth.

“Was super proud of the effort tonight as we played really hard and did some nice things,” noted Teuton head coach Brett Froese. “We just could not hang with them. Cheney is such a good team, all seven guys they play can shoot it, pass it, and drive it. They are extremely hard to defend. We had a great first quarter and we’re playing well until midway through the second quarter. One Jace (Doerksen) rolled his ankle and was done for the game, it really limited us offensively. You can’t have a dry spell scoring against Cheney and that is what happened in the second and third quarters.”

Eli Brunk led the Teutons in scoring with 13 points thanks to a pair of three-pointers while Tanner Heckel also reached double digits with 10. Doerksen scored seven of the teams nine second quarter points before leaving the game injured.
