GOESSEL – After a rough first quarter the Moundridge boys righted the offensive ship and soundly defeated Goessel on the road Friday, winning by 16, 64-38.

The win gives the Wildcats, who are currently ranked 9th in Class 2A, a season record of 11-2 as they now prep for a road trip to Sterling on Tuesday.

Goessel held a five-point, 13-8 lead at the end of the first quarter before the Wildcats pulled a point ahead at 18-17 at the halftime break. In the third quarter it was all Moundridge as they put 25 points in the scorebook while holding Goessel to just eight, giving the Wildcats a solid 18-point, 43-25 advantage heading into the final eight minutes of play where they cruised in for the final 16-point victory.

“Goessel always plays hard and they did again tonight,” explained Wildcat head coach Vance Unrau. “We struggled offensively early on when we didn’t attack the basket and didn’t move without the ball. We have got to play harder and with more purpose early in games. Logan (Churchill) got us going in the third quarter and we were then able to get some separation. The entire month of February and beyond will be tough every night we play and we will have to be locked in for all 32 minutes at both ends of the court.”

Logan Churchill was the Wildcats top scorer as he connected for 25 points while Landon Kaufman finished with 13. Churchill, Kaufman, and Barrett Moddelmog all worked the boards and topped the team with five rebounds each while Kaufman directed the offense and dished out eight assists.
