CANTON = The Canton/Galva girls played the visiting Herington girls even up in the second half, but due to early game stumbles still lost by 15, 48-33 at home on Tuesday.
The Lady Eagles got down by six, 14-8, by the end of the first quarter and trailed by 17, 29-12, going into the halftime break. After the intermission, Canton/Galva out-scored Herington 21-19 in the final two quarters, just not enough to gain any traction on the scoreboard.
Neither team shot very well from the field as Herington only connected on 33% of their shot attempts while the Lady Eagles hit just 29%. Herington also won the war in the paint by out rebounding Canton/Galva 42-29.
Lili Espinoza led the Lady Eagles with 10 points while Mimi Craig pitched in with eight and Brecken Pearson hit for seven.
Mimi Craig was a workhorse in the paint as she pulled down 11 rebounds and blocked a couple of shots.
Now 2-12 for the season, the Lady Eagles have the tough task of tangling with Little River on the road on Friday. The Little River girls are currently ranked fourth in Class 1A Division I and hold a sparkling 13-1 record for 2021=22.
