GOESSEL – It seemed to be over from the opening tip on Friday for the Elyria Christian girls as they totally dominated their road trip to Goessel in a 40-point, 57-17 victory.

The Lady Eagles flew out to an 18-point, 21-3 lead by the end of the first quarter and held a commanding 25-point, 32-7 advantage heading into the halftime break before cruising through the second half for the final 40-point win.

“This was a good win for us tonight as they are a well-coached team that plays very aggressive defense,” noted Lady Eagle head coach Greg Fields. “I was a little worried coming off a couple of snow days after we were already a little off on Tuesday night. I was extremely happy with the way our girls came out and played great defense all four quarters while playing together on offense. I liked the 15 assists we had as a team and that we reduced our turnovers from earlier in the week.”

It was a blistering hot night offensively for the Lady Eagles as the connected on 59% of their shots from the field which included hitting on 44% of the attempts from beyond the three-point line.

Defensively, Elyria forced Goessel into making 25 turnovers while only shooting 19% from the field.

Elyria was led by the tandem of Ryland Hawkinson and Allie Stone as they both scored as they wanted with both scoring 19 points while combining to hit on 15-of-17 from the field that included a five-for-six game from the three-point line for Stone.

On top of the scoring, Hawkinson led the team in rebounds with six while Stone dished out three assists, stole the ball five times and blocked a shot.

Coach Fields concluded his post-game reflections by talking about the duo when he said, “Ryland (Hawkinson) had another great game offensively, and Allie (Stone) probably had the best game of her career.”

Now 10-4 for the season, the Lady Eagles return to the hardwood on Tuesday when they play host to Herington before closing out next week with a road trip to tangle with always tough Little River.
