MOUNDRIDGE = In a battle of top-10 ranked teams for Class 2A, the #9 ranked Moundridge boys out dueled the #7 ranked Inman boys on Friday at home for an 18-point, 51-33 win.

“I wasn’t sure how our team would respond tonight coming off a tough road loss at Sterling plus not having school for a couple of days due to weather,” said Wildcat head coach Vance Unrau. “It was also homecoming, and we were recognizing the 1997 State team, so there was a lot of distractions that put us a bit out of routine tonight as well. But our guys came to play.”

The Wildcats clawed their way out to a seven-point, 17-10 lead by the end of the first quarter and pushed the advantage to 15 points at 30-15 by the halftime break before holding even with the Teutons in the final two quarters to get the final 18-point victory.

Moundridge was hot from the field, hitting on 54% of their shots while dominating the boards by out rebounding Inman 27-14.

For the Teutons, they only had five players put points on the board with Tanner Heckel leading the team with 17 while Eli Brunk had seven.

Logan Churchill had a monster game for the Wildcats, recording a double double with 20 points and 10 rebounds to go with five blocked shots. Also reaching double digits in the scorebook were freshman Barrett Moddelmog with 15 and Landon Kaufman who chipped in with 10. Kaufman scored a double double as well as he directed the offense and dished out 10 assists. Moundridge totaled 15 assists on 20 made field goals for the night.

Coach Unrau concluded his reflections on the game by adding, “Landon (Kaufman) draws so much attention and he is so good at finding the open man. Logan (Churchill) was aggressive at the offensive end and after his poor performance on the glass on Tuesday I really challenged him to do a better job of rebounding and he did just that. (Barrett) Moddelmog was more active and aggressive at the offensive end which we have been wanting him to be. Good team win tonight against a really athletic and well coached Inman team.”

With the win, the Wildcats are now 12-3 for the season as they prepare to tangle with Hutchinson Trinity at home on Tuesday before hitting the road for a game at Remington on Friday.

For the Teutons, the loss drops their season mark to 11-4 as they look to have a week off to rest and prep to host Marion next Friday.
