CANTON – In a makeup game on Monday, the 11 Canton/Galva boys put points on the board, and it was still not enough as they lost to Solomon by 18, 83-65.
The Gorillas put up 27 points on the board in the first quarter to take an early 15-point lead and then led the Eagles by 20, 44-24 at the halftime break. While the Eagles were able to put 41 points in the scorebook in the final two quarters, it was only enough to keep up with Solomon in the final 18-point loss.
“Our kids played hard in an up and down game all night,” explained Eagle head coach Larry O’Connor. “We have to start shooting the ball with some consistency and figure out our rotations after losing Struber to his injury.”
Braden Doughman had a big game offensively with 21 points while both Cason Mastre and TJ Koehn also reached double digits with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Nine of Mastre’s points came on three three-pointers.
Coach O’Connor concluded his post-game reflections by adding, “Brayden (Doughman) and TJ (Koehn) played really well and will have to continue to grow in their roles. Playing a lot of games the next two weeks and not much practice time, but we will continue to work hard and get better.”
While Solomon had just six players score in the game, five of those six reached double digits lead by Makaen Hastings with 27 and both Carlos Duran and Caden Acosta chipping in with 15.
The loss drops the Eagle to 6-6 for the season.
