HILLSBORO – Despite not have wrestlers in five weight classes, the Smoky Valley wrestlers still managed to finish fifth on Thursday at the Central Kansas League meet in Hillsboro.

Only nine Viking wrestlers competed as the team did not have anyone wrestling in the weight classes of 106, 138, 160, 195, and 285.

The Vikings were still able to total 72 team points which placed them in the middle of the ten team competition at fifth as Hoisington and Pratt battled it out for first and second. Halstead and Hillsboro finished third and fourth ahead of Smoky Valley.

Three Viking wrestlers finished second in their weight classes with Connor Barnes going 4-1 at 120, Richard Zeller finishing 3-2 at 170 and Justin Holt going 4-1 at 220. Justice Gardner and David Sample placed third in their weight classes.

Next up for the Smoky Valley wrestlers will be regionals on Friday, February 18.

132 lbs. = David Sample went 3-2 and placed 3rd.

145 lbs. = Andrew Young went 0-5 and placed 8th.

152 lbs. = Wyatt Johnson went 2-3 and placed 7th.

170 lbs. = Richard Zeller went 3-2 and placed 2nd.

182 lbs. = Geo Luis went 0-5 and placed 6th.

220 lbs. = Justin Holt went 4-1 and placed 2nd.
