MCPHERSON – The McPherson Police Department released a statement referencing a situation outside the McPherson Middle School on Tuesday morning.
According to the press release, McPherson Police officers were dispatched to do a welfare check on an individual experiencing a mental health crisis outside the McPherson Middle School around 10:20 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
For the safety of Middle school and Washington Elementary School students and staff, both schools were put on a soft lock down at the time.
Local officers physically detained the subject outside the Middle School, after which both schools were released from the lock down. Total time of incident was 10 to 15 minutes.
Within the press release sent out by Mark Brinck, Administrative Captain/Public Information Officer of the McPherson Police Department, it was also stated that false information was being circulated through the rumor/social media mill regarding the use of a taser or tasers to subdue the subject. According to the press release – local officers did not deploy a Taser during the incident.
