LEROY – It was a long road trip Monday for the Canton/Galva boys, but they made it worth it by scoring a 16-point, 73-51 victory over Southern Coffey County.
The victory raises the season mark for the Eagles to 9-6 and is the team’s third win in a row for the Eagles as they have a busy week ahead with a trip to Wichita Homeschool on Tuesday, a home game with Fairfield on Thursday and then another road trip on Saturday to South Haven.
The Eagles put 25 points on the board in the first quarter, racing out to a nine-point, 25-14 lead before adding another 20 points in the scorebook in the second quarter, giving them a commanding 20-point, 46-26, advantage entering the halftime break.
Canton/Galva tacked another 10 points on their lead in the third quarter, outscoring Southern Coffey County 19-9 to take a 30-point lead into the final eight minutes before the home team put some points on the board to pull back within 22 at the end of the game.
“It was a long two-hour road trip to Southern Coffey County,” noted Eagle head coach Larry O’Connor. “Again tonight, we came out with great energy and got off to a great start. With so many games coming up the next couple of weeks and three more games yet to play this week, we played a lot of guys, running five in-five out most of the night.”
Eagle senior, Christian Darrah, had a huge game offensively as he poured in 25 points in the first two quarters and finished the game with 29 total as 11 of the 14 players suiting up put at least a point in the scorebook for the night. Jory Ratzlaff, TJ Koehn, and Brayden Doughman all came close to double digits scoring with nine, eight and seven points, respectively.
Darrah also topped the team in the paint, missing a double double with nine rebounds.
As a team, the Eagles connected on a whopping 12 three-pointers in the game with Darrah hitting five, Jory Ratzlaff connected for three and Jayden Ediger had two.
Coach O’Connor finished his reflections on the game by saying, “Christian (Darrah) had a good night finishing with 29 points and nine rebounds. Good consistent scoring and the boys played extremely hard and together tonight. We are getting good solid minutes from our young kids which will help down the stretch.”
