SEDGWICK – While both the Moundridge boys and girls recorded road wins on Tuesday at Sedgwick, it was the celebration in the second quarter of the Lady Wildcat game when senior Kate Eichelberger recorded her 1,000-career point.

The Lady Wildcats ended up winning by 14, 49-35 while the Wildcat boys scored a six-point, 37-31 victory.

With the win the Wildcat boys, ranked #9 in Class 2A, are now 13-5 for the season with the Lady Wildcats close behind at 12-6.

The two teams will be back on the home court on Friday when they will play host to Berean Academy.

EICHELBERGER GETS 1,000 POINTS IN LADY WILDCAT WIN

After trailing by two, 11-9, at the end of the first quarter, the Lady Wildcats out scored the home team 15-3 in the second quarter to take a 10-point, 24-14 lead into the halftime break.

Somewhere in the second quarter the game stopped for a moment as Lady Wildcat senior Kate Eichelberger scored her 1,000-career point.

After Moundridge put four more points on their lead to give them a 14-point, 43-29 advantage at the end of the third quarter, Sedgwick played them even in the final eight minutes of play as the Lady Wildcat played out for the final 14-point victory.

“Tonight, was a lot of fun as we got to celebrate in the second quarter when Kate (Eichelberger) scored her 1,000-career point,” noted Lady Wildcat head coach Kaleigh Huxman in her post-game reflections. “We are seeing things on offense in the past week that we have been working on all season and that is exciting. I was also very pleased with our rebounding effort.”

Eichelberger had a huge night offensively I in leading the team in scoring with 25 points while Kindall Elmore chipped in with 13 points.

WILDCAT BOYS GET SIX-POINT VICTORY

For the Moundridge boys, they began the game four points down, trailing Sedgwick 9-5 at the end of the first quarter before the Wildcats tied the game up at 13-13 going into the halftime break.

Coming out of the intermission, the Wildcats put 18 points on the board in the third quarter while holding Sedgwick to under 10 with seven, giving them an 11-point, 31-20, advantage heading into the final quarter where Sedgwick tried to comeback and brought the final deficit to just six in the Wildcat victory.

“The night was pretty much like I saw it coming,” pointed out Wildcat head coach Vance Unrau. “Sedgwick is such a tough, physical, and athletic group of guys. Both teams competed hard. We finally started to attack the pain and created some open looks, but every shot was contested. We finally created a little breathing room in the second half. Not sure I have ever been part of a game where the other team only made three-point field goals. But it happened tonight.”

Like Coach Unrau noted, Sedgwick made just nine shots from the field and all nine came from beyond the three-point arc.

Barrett Moddelmog and Landon Kaufman led the Wildcats on offense with each scoring 12 points while Logan Churchill chipped in with 10 points and nearly had a double-double by leading the team with eight rebounds.

Nine of Kaufman’s 12 points came in the third quarter, and he also topped the team directing the offense with seven assists while making four steals on defense.
