With the one exception of Canton/Galva, all other McPherson County area high schools will be busy this week with Kansas State Sub-State Basketball Tournaments as they try to earn a trip to the State Tournaments scheduled for Wednesday, March 9 through Saturday, March 12.

Both the Canton/Galva boys and girls teams lost in their first-round sub-state games this past week. The Eagle boys lost 59-31 to St. John while the Lady Eagles lost 50-14 to St. John as well, with both games played on Thursday, February 24.

Here is a run down of the area teams by Class with when they will be playing along with who:

CLASS 4A BOYS (# seeded):

#9 McPherson Bullpups (11-9) at #8 Clearwater on Wednesday, March 2.

  • If the Bullpups win, they would then play the winner of #1 Pratt and #16 Ulysses on Saturday, March 5.

CLASS 4A GIRLS (# seeded):

#6 McPherson Lady Bullpups (13-7) host #11 Mulvane on Tuesday, March 1.

  • If the Lady Bullpups win, they would then play the winner of #3 Rock Creek and #14 Buhler on Friday, March 4.

CLASS 3A BOYS (# seeded):

Minneapolis Sub-State

#4 Smoky Valley Vikings (10-10) host #5 Ellsworth on Monday, February 28.

  • If the Viking boys win, they would then play the winner of #1 Southeast of Saline and #8 Minneapolis on Thursday, March 3.

CLASS 3A GIRLS (# seeded):

Minneapolis Sub-State

#2 Smoky Valley Lady Vikings (14-6) host #7 Ellsworth on Tuesday, March 1.

  • If the Lady Vikings win, they would then play the winner of #3 Minneapolis and #6 Riley County on Friday, March 4.

CLASS 2A BOYS (# seeded):

Whitewater/Remington Sub-State

#2 Moundridge Wildcats (17-3) host #7 Rosalia/Flint Hills on Tuesday, March 1.

  • If the Wildcat boys win, they would then play the winner of #3 Inman (16-4) and #6 Berean Academy on Friday, March 4.

#3 Inman Teutons (16-4) host #6 Berean Academy on Tuesday, March 1.

  • If the Teuton boys win, they would then play the winner of #2 Moundridge (17-3) and # 7 Flint Hills on Friday, March 4.

CLASS 2A GIRLS (# seeded):

Whitewater/Remington Sub-State

#5 Moundridge Lady Wildcats (12-8) play at #4 Hillsboro on Monday, February 28.

  • If the Lady Wildcats win, they would then play the winner of #1 Berean Academy (had a first-round bye) on Thursday, March 3.

#7 Inman Lady Teutons (6-14) at #2 Whitewater/Remington on Monday, February 28.

  • If the Lady Teutons win, they would then play the winner of #3 Rosalia/Flint Hills and #6 Sedgwick on Thursday, March 3.

CLASS 1A DIVISION I BOYS (# seeded):

Burrton Sub-State

# 3 Little River Redskins (15-6) vs. #2 Goessel in Burrton on Thursday, March 3.

  • The Redskin boys won their first-round sub-state matchup with Fairfield, 64-34 on Thursday, February 24.
  • If the Redskin boys win, they would then play the winner of #1 Macksville and #4 St. John on Saturday, March 5 for the Sub-State Championship, and a trip to State.

CLASS 1A DIVISION I GIRLS (# seeded):

Burrton Sub-State

#1 Little River Lady Redskins (19-1) vs. #5 Macksville in Burrton on Friday, March 4.

  • The Lady Redskins had a bye in the first-round of sub-state play.
  • If the Lady Redskins win, they would then play the winner of #2 St. John and #3 Burrton on Saturday, March 5 for the Sub-State Championship, and a trip to State.

CLAS 1A DIVISION II BOYS (# seeded):

Stafford Sub-State

#1 Elyria Christian Eagles (14-6) vs. #4 Pawnee Heights in Stafford on Thursday, March 3.

  • The Eagle boys had a bye in the first-round of sub-state play.
  • If the Eagle boys win, they would then play the winner of #2 Stafford and #3 Cunningham on Saturday, March 5 for the Sub-State Championship, and a trip to State.

CLASS 1A DIVISION II (# seeded):

Stafford Sub-State

#2 Elyria Christian Lady Eagles vs. #6 Stafford in Stafford on Friday, March 4.

  • The Lady Eagles had a bye in the first round of sub-state play.
  • If the Lady Eagles win, they would then play the winner of #1 Hutchinson-Central Christian and #4 Chase on Saturday, March 5 for the Sub-State Championship, and a trip to State.
