MARION – In a track/field meet hosted by Solomon at Marion, the Canton/Galva Eagles scored a total of 10 gold medals and five silver with the Eagle boys finishing just five points out of a team championship.

For the Eagle boys, they finished with eight first place finishes individually while landing in second place in the team standings with 90 points, just five points behind meet champion Marion.

The Eagles won eight events including three by Tyson Struber as he took first in the 100 meters, 200 meters, and the javelin, while Christian Darrah won both the 800 and 1,600 meters. The other three firsts came from Wyatt Collins in the shot put, Jaden Ediger in the long jump, and Lane McMannis in the 400 meters. Collins and McMannis also finished second in the discus and javelin, respectively.

Considering they only had three athletes participating, it was amazing that the Lady Eagles finished the meet with 36 points and fourth place.

Mimi Craig scored a first-place finish in the shot-put while being runner-up in the discus, and Brinley Becker placed first in the 100 meters while placing second in both the 200 meters and long jump. The third Lady Eagle competing was Emily Lance and she placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles.

“We had several Eagles not available for us today,” noted Eagle head coach Tina McMannis. “They were fighting injuries and sat out some events in this meet. We are hoping to get them all back to health soon.”

Six Eagle track/field members will be traveling to Wichita on Thursday and Friday to compete in the Shocker Pre-State Classic for Classes 1A, 2A, and 3A. In the elite section of the meet where the top track/field performers from all six classes compete, two Eagles, Mimi Craig in the shot put and Tyson Struber in the 200 meters have been chosen to compete.

The rest of the Eagle track/field team will be heading to Lyons on Friday.
