LITTLE RIVER – The Canton/Galva softball team traveled to Little River on Thursday and did not treat the home team very well in scoring a dominating doubleheader sweep, winning game one 16-9 before closing out the nightcap in just three innings 20-1.

In game one the Lady Eagles jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the second inning when Little River powered across eight runs in the bottom of the second and took an 8-5 lead which they held until the top of the fifth when Canton/Galva tied it up at 8-8. The Lady Eagles then put up three runs in the sixth and five in the seventh to gain their final 16-9 win.

The 22-hit offense by the Lady Eagles was led by Julia Allen, a co-op player from Elyria Christian, as she pounded out six hits that included a double, a triple and four stolen bases. Allen also provided six runs batted in and scored three times herself.

Both Gracie Kidd and Taygen O’Hara each had three hits and Jordan Friesen hammered out a home run. Canton/Galva also dominated the base paths as they stole 16 bases total.

No Canton/Galva pitching stats were available.

Only Kayla Fox and Bethany Sears had more than one hit for the Lady Redskins and they each had two with one of Fox’s hits being a double. Jailyn Miller worked the mound for Little River.

It was complete domination for the Lady Eagles in game two as they scored five times in the first and poured across 13 runs in the second inning before adding a pair in the third to score a game shortened 20-1 victory after just three innings.

Gracie Kidd had another three hits in the second game for Canton/Galva as did both Julia Allen and Kinsey Dawes. Brecken Pearson had the big hit of the game when she hammered out a grand slam home run. Pearson pitched and got the win for the Lady Eagles.

Bethany Sears again led the little Lady Redskin offense with a pair of hits while Katie Collins and Courtney Stansbury worked the mound.

Canton/Galva will be back on the diamond on Friday when they host Sterling while Little River is off until Tuesday when Minneapolis comes to town.
