SEDGWICK – The Moundridge softball team continues to remain unbeaten on the season as they scored a pair of wins on Tuesday on the road at Sedgwick, winning game one 8-6 before closing out the doubleheader with a 12-6 victory.
Now 4-0 for the young season, the Lady Wildcats will be on the road again on Friday at Ell-Saline.
In the first game, Moundridge scored the 8-6 win with just three hits by getting two runs in the first, one in each of the next two innings and another pair in the fourth before finishing out their scoring with two more in the seventh. Sedgwick put two on the board in the third and pulled to within two runs with two more in the fifth. While Sedgwick did get a pair in the bottom of the seventh, it was not enough as the Lady Wildcats held on for the two-run win.
Addy Falco had two of the teams three hits with one of those being a double. The Lady Wildcats ran wild on the basepaths as they recorded 13 stolen bases led by four from Kindall Elmore and three by Emily Durst.
Emily Durst went the game on the mound for Moundridge and threw 121 pitches while giving up eight hits, six runs and striking out 11.
In the nightcap, the Lady Wildcats and Sedgwick were tied at 2-2 at the end of the first inning before Moundridge put four runs on the board in the second and two more in the fourth. With Sedgwick getting a run in each of the third and fourth innings, the Lady Wildcats led 8-4 going into the sixth when they poured four more runs across and then held Sedgwick to just a pair to earn the final six-run, 12-6 victory.
Kindall Elmore, Kate Eichelberger, and Emily Durst each provided a pair of hits for the Lady Wildcat offense with Eichelberger hammering out a double.
Moundridge stole another 11 bases, giving them 24 total stolen bases in the two games. Aubree Durst stole four to lead the team.
Taking the mound to start the game, Emma Blough got credit for the win after going 5.1 innings and throwing 139 pitches while giving up just three hits and three earned runs plus striking out seven. Emily Durst pitched the final 1.2 innings and earned the save.
