MOUNDRIDGE – The Moundridge baseball team played host to Little River on Tuesday and the visitors hammered Moundridge 14-2 and 19-3 to sweep the doubleheader.

With the two wins, the Redskins are now on a seven-game win streak and raise their season mark to 10-1 while earning the ranking of ninth in the latest KABC Class 2-1A rankings. Next up for Little River will be a doubleheader at Ellsworth on Friday.

For the Wildcats, they now drop to 3-9 for the season and will play host to Bennington on Friday.

In game one, the only runs Moundridge could muster came in the bottom of the third when they tied the game at 2-2 before Little River scored three in the top of the fourth and another nine in the top of the fifth to earn the final 14-2 win.

Braden Young, Ty Herzog, and Grant Stephens all pitched for the Redskins and combined to hold the Wildcats to just six hits and a pair of runs while walking five and striking out five.

Leading the offense for Little River was Young who went four-for-four with three runs batted in and scoring twice. Two of Young’s hits went for a double and triple. Both Stephens and Dalton Mantz had three hits with Mantz getting a double while both of Carter Stansbury’s hits went for doubles as well.

Jerid Montague started the game on the mound for the Wildcats with Joaquin Huff closing it out.

Ty Rains was the lone Moundridge hitter to get two hits.

Little River put four runs on the scoreboard in the top of the first of game two and held a 7-3 lead after four innings before pounding out five runs in the fifth and seven in the sixth on their way to a 19-3 demolition of Moundridge in the nightcap.

Starting the game for the Redskins was Spencer Strecker and he went the first four, giving up just four hits and three runs while walking four and striking out four. Braden Young threw a no-hit, shutout with five strikes in the final two innings.

Braden Young closed out the day going eight-for-eight as he went four-for-four again in game two for the Redskins, this time hammering out a pair of doubles along with another triple. Young also knocked across three runs while scoring four times himself.

Logan Renken hit a pair of doubles and a triple while knocking across five runs, and Spencer Strecker also had three hits on the day, including a triple. Sixteen was a magic number for the Redskins as they earned 16 walks and stole 16 bases, led by Grant Stephens with four steals and Dalton Mantz and Ty Herzog swiping three each.

Four Moundridge pitchers tried to stop the Redskin assault as Anthony Everhart, Logan Churchill, Lane Durst, and Joaquin Huff did their best but combined to give up 15 hits and 18 earned runs while waling 16 and striking out eight.

Joe Schrag had two of the teams four hits with Ty Rains hitting for a double.
