REMINGTON – Traveling to Remington to participate in a track/field meet hosted by Berean Academy, the Little River boys, and girls both had strong showings as the boys finished third and the girls placed second overall while winning a total seven gold medals and 12 silver.
For the Redskin boys, they finished in the team standings with 88 points, well behind first-place Berean Academy at 198 and second-place Moundridge with 136. Other schools at the meet included Remington, Hesston, and Langdon/Fairfield.
Braxton Lafferty and Andrew Smith both scored gold for the Redskins with Lafferty winning the triple jump just ahead of teammate Rylan Konen and Smith taking first in the high jump just a couple of inches ahead of fellow Redskin Treyton Olander.
While Berean Academy won the girls meet as well with 176 points, the Lady Redskins took second in the team standings by scoring 126 points, a good 15 points ahead of third place Remington.
Alaina Eck came home with four gold medals by getting two individually in winning the triple jump and long jump before running the first leg in the winning 4×400 meter relay and the second leg of the gold medal 4×100 meter relay.
Ashley Stephenson earned three golds by running legs on both the champion relay teams along with winning the 800 meters.
Next up for the Little River track/field teams will be on Thursday at the Sterling Relays.
