MARION – Both the Inman girls and boys track/field teams scored team championships on Tuesday at the six-team Marion Invitational with the Teuton boys dominating their field while the Lady Teutons nipping two other teams for their first-place finish.
The Teuton boys rolled up 197 points to take first well ahead of second-place Goessel with 123 and third place Halstead at 97. The other three teams competing were Sedgwick, host Marion and Centre.
Sophomores Harrison Brunk and Tanner Heckel each scored four golds for the day with both winning two individual golds and two relay golds. Harrison won both the 100 and 200 meters while Tanner Heckel won the long jump and triple jump.
Both Harrison Brunk and Heckel teamed up with Kendyn Blank and Dawson Mannebach to win the 4×100 and 4×400 meter relays as well.
Teuton junior Eli Brunk also scored two individual golds with wins in both the 110- and 300-meter hurdles while Mannebach and Grant Thimmesch had individual golds in the 400 meters and javelin, respectively.
Along with the 10 first-place finishes, the Teuton boys also placed second in nine events as well.
For the Lady Teutons, they won the team championship with 127 points, just three points ahead of runner-up Goessel at 124 and six points ahead of third-place Sedgwick.
Madilyn Heflin led the Inman girls with a gold in the 100-meter hurdles while also gaining gold as the second leg of the first place 4×400 meter relay quartet that also featured Madelyn Brunk, Rebecca Black, and Brylee Mannebach.
Other Lady Teutons taking first were Willow Quillin in the shot put and Chloe Schmidt in the discus. Inman also had runner-up finishes in the 4×100 and 4×800 meter relays, the 3,200 and 800 meters as well as the long jump and high jump.
Both Inman track/field teams are scheduled to participate at the Sterling Relays on Thursday.
