CANTON – Gracie Kidd had a monster day on Friday in leading the Canton/Galva softball team to a dominating doubleheader sweep of Sedgwick at home in Canton, winning 16-1 and 16-3.
Kidd went 6-of-7 at the plate over the two games for the Lady Eagles, with a triple, a home run, six runs batted in, and three stolen bases while also scoring six times herself.
In game one, the Lady Eagles pounded Sedgwick for two runs in the first, six in the second and another eight in the third to make it a short game while getting the 16-1 victory thanks to 12 hits and eight base on balls.
Jordan Friesen pitched, throwing 41 pitches while giving up just two hits, one run, walking a pair and striking out five.
Besides Kidd, Brecken Pearson, Friesen, and Raegan Hawkinson all had a pair of hits with Pearson, Friesen, and Taygen O’Hara all hammering out doubles while Julia Allen stole three of the teams eight stolen bases.
For the nightcap, it was Friesen again on the mound and this time she went five innings, throwing 74 pitches while giving up nine hits, just three runs, no walks and striking out nine.
Not only did Kidd get four hits in game two, so did Julia Allen with one of her hits being a two-run home run. Both Allen and Kidd scored four times in the game for the Lady Eagles while Pearson scored three times. Both Friesen and Pearson hit their second doubles of the day.
After hitting a stretch where they lost three of four games, the Lady Eagles now stand at 10-4 for the season as they ready for a home battle with county rival Moundridge on Friday, April 29.
