WICHITA – Winning four golds and scoring team points in 10 of 11 events entered, the Smoky Valley girls track/field team dominated the 2022 Class 3A State Meet and repeated as state champions on Saturday in Wichita at Cessna Stadium.

The Lady Vikings rolled up 82.5 points to finish 40.5 points ahead of runner-up Eureka with 42. Cheney (41), Phillipsburg (35), and LaCygne/Prairie View (30) rounded out the top five.

Three individual Lady Vikings scored gold as Breanne Peters in the 200 meters, Abby Rose in the 400 meters, and Gracie Lambert in the 800 meters as did the 4×800 meter relay quartet of Keira Mullen, Sophia Fruits, Rose, and Lambert.

Breanne Peters also finished second in both the 100 meters and pole vault and Lambert placed second in the 1,600 meters.

Despite only competing in five events and scoring in four, the Viking boys still managed to finish 13th with 19 points that saw a gold gathered up by the team of Tytus Reed, Justice Gardner, Garrett Huffman, and Lukas Apel in the 4×800 meter relay.

LADY VIKINGS:

Team – Finished 1st with 82.5 points.

100 Meters: 2nd – Breanne Peters, 12.31, 8 points.

100 Meter Hurdles: 12th in Prelims – Clara McElroy, 17.23.

200 Meters: 1st – Breanne Peters, 26.51, 10 points.

400 Meters: 1st – Abby Rose, 57.86, 10 points.

800 Meter: 1st – Gracie Lambert, 2:21.21, 10 points; 10th – Keira Mullen, 2:30.18.

1,600 Meters: 2nd – Gracie Lambert, 5:22.15, 8 points.

Long Jump: 6th – Breanne Peters, 16’6.25”, 3 points.

Pole Vault: 2nd – Breanne Peters, 10’6”, 8 points; T-4th – Noelle Peters, 10’0”, 4.5 points.

4×100 Meter Relay: 6th – Lady Vikings, 51.27, 3 points, (Noelle Peters, Gabby Behanna, Clara McElroy, Abby Rose).

4×400 Meter Relay: 2nd – Lady Vikings, 4:08.95, 8 points, (Noelle Peters, Abby Rose, Keira Mullen, Gracie Lambert).

4×800 Meter Relay: 1st – Lady Vikings, 10:03.48, 10 points, (Keira Mullen, Sophia Fruits, Abby Rose, Gracie Lambert).

VIKING BOYS:

Team – Finished tied for 13th with 19 points.

400 Meters: 7th – Lukas Apel, 51.61; 2 points.

800 Meters: 8th – Tytus Reed, 2:04.43, 1 point.

1,600 Meters: 13th – Tytus Reed, 5:00.01.

4×400 Meter Relay: 3rd – Vikings, 3:30.86, 6 points, (Wyatt Johnson, Jerome Autry, Tytus Reed, Lukas Apel).

4×800 Meter Relay: 1st – Vikings, 8:25.65, 10 points, (Tytus Reed, Justice Gardner, Garrett Huffman, Lukas Apel).
