INMAN – The Inman volleyball team, looking to make another run at a state title, opened their 2022 season by finishing second hosting the Inman Tournament.
Going 4-1 for the day, the Lady Teutons got all four of their victories by winning the match in straight sets.
They opened with a 25-4, 25-12 thrashing of Remington, then handled Conway Springs 25-11, 25-14 before putting away county rival Moundridge 25-23, 25-12 and then defeating Chaparral 25-16, 25-21 to make the tournament championship match.
In the championship match Sedgwick got the better of them 13-25 and 14-25 to win the tournament and leaving Inman with a second-place trophy.
Freshman Suttyn Harris opened her Lady Teuton career with a sensational day, hitting on 64.2% of her hits (52/81), while recording 14 blocks and making 30 digs.
Junior Chloe Schmidt hit 30/59 or 50.8% and recorded six blocks, while junior Kambrey Woods went 42/45 serving with five aces to go with 91 assists and senior Mace Neufeld hit 55/59 serving with eight aces.
“I was very proud of the team,” noted coach Megan Heckel in her post tournament reflections. “We know what we need to work on to keep improving and getting better. A lot of good things were done today, and the season has just begun.”
Up next for the Lady Teutons will come on Tuesday, August 30 when they travel cross-county to Canton/Galva for a triangular with the Lady Eagles and Centre.
