FAIRFIELD – The Little River volleyball went on the road Tuesday to open the 2022 season and dominated a triangular at Fairfield with three straight set victories over Fairfield, Larned and Udall.
In the first match of the day, the Lady Redskins handed a straight set defeat to Larned, winning 25-19, 25-13 before hammering Udall in the second match of the meet by scores of 25-11, 25-6.
In the third and final match of the meet, Little River took care of host Fairfield in straight sets as well, beating them 25-13, 25-20.
The Little River junior varsity also made a straight set sweep in their matches with wins over Fairfield (25-14, 25-18), Udall (25-9, 25-9) and Larned (25-21, 25-13).
“We were excited to see both squads sweep every set to go 6-0 for the day,” noted Lady Redskin head coach Kim Rolfs. “We have many who have improved since last year and we look like a team that’s been together now for three years.”
Among the team leaders for the day was Chenzi DeBaere who recorded 36 assists while Kate Ellwood pitched in with 19. Mea DeBaere topped the Lady Redskins in digs with 19 while Alaina Eck and Aubrey Olander led the way in kills with 23 and 19, respectively.
Coach Rolfs concluded her brief reflections on the day by adding, “We have a couple of freshmen who get into the rotations, and I was super pleased with their performance first night out. I expect them to get better and play fluidly as the season continues.”
Next up for the Lady Redskin spikers will come on Tuesday, September 6 when they host a quad with Herington, Centre and Elyria Christian.
