MCPHERSON – On Thursday the McPherson Middle School eighth-grade football team opened their 2022 season at home against Valley Center and stumbled while taking a 14-0 loss.

The game was 0-0 at halftime before Valley Center put a couple of second half scores on the board to get the win.

“Really proud of the way our eighth-grade boys competed tonight against an excellent Valley Center team,” said head coach Heath Gerstner. “They were the better team and were very physical. We felt like we had some opportunities get away to have a lead potentially, but penalties and some breakdowns cost us in the second half.”

Gerstner concluded his post-game comments by adding, “More than anything it was great to see the boys playing football again and we thought the crowd and local support was fantastic.”

The Middle School eighth-grade Junior Pups will be at home again next week when they will play host to Derby on Thursday, September 8.
