NEWTON – On Tuesday the McPherson Middle School eighth-grade volleyball team traveled to Newton to tangle with Newton Chisholm Middle School and Hays Middle School and returned home with three wins and one loss.

“A” Team Results: The eighth grade ‘A’ team had to go three sets in their first match with Hays before scoring a victory.

After winning the first set 25-19, Hays handed the Junior Lady Pups a 17-25 loss in set two before McPherson came back and scored a 15-10 win in the third set to get the match win.

In a pair of tough fought sets against Newton Chisholm Middle School, McPherson pulled out a straight set, 25-23, 25-18 win to now sit at 4-0 for the young season.

“Our eighth grade ‘A’ team played hard with no subs all night,” said head coach Christine Pianalto. “They found themselves in the hole a few times and put together some strong rallies to dig themselves out. The girls showed resilience and determination to finish each match on top.”

“B” Team Results: In the ‘B’ team matches, the Junior Lady Pups were handed a first match loss to Hays (10-25, 25-17, 10-15) after losing the first and third sets.

McPherson was able to bounce back in the second match of the day against Newton Chisholm and scored a straight set, 25-13, 25-16, win.

The eighth-grade Junior Lady Pups are now 2-2 for the season.

Next up for the 8th grade Junior Lady Pups will be another road trip on Thursday when they travel to Derby to tangle with Goddard Eisenhower Middle School and Derby North Middle School.
