ELYRIA – On Tuesday, the Elyria Christian volleyball team earned a win over Centre while struggling in a loss to Herington.
“We did not play our best volleyball tonight,” pointed out Lady Eagle head coach Jayme Gardner. “While we had good moments off and on throughout the night, we came out flat and it dictated how we played.”
Against Centre, the Lady Eagles scored a match victory in straight sets, winning 25-21, 25-17 with sisters Ryland and Raegan Hawkinson topping the team by recording eight and five kills, respectively. Laney Reiff had a strong match by dishing out 10 assists, making 11 digs and scoring three aces.
In the nightcap, Elyria struggled against Herington and lost in straight sets, 20-25, 19-25. Ryland Hawkinson recorded six kills and both Julia Allen and Laney Reiff made eight digs each to lead the Lady Eagles.
Coach Gardner finished out her post-match reflections by saying, “We struggled staying out of the net, which then became a frustration and, in turn, led to us not making smart plays. It’s early in the season, we are going to take this off night and learn as well as grow from it.”
The Lady Eagle junior varsity played as well in a match with Herington where they lost in straight sets 17-25, 18-25. Brooke Davidson had a pair of aces and made seven digs while both Natalie Jadar and Addison Swenson made six digs each.
Next on the schedule for the Lady Eagles will be Saturday, September 10 when they play in the Solomon Invitational.
