MCPHERSON – On Tuesday, the McPherson High volleyball team split a pair of home matches with Winfield and Circle.
In the opening match with Winfield the Lady Bullpups pulled off a near identical pair of wins, taking the first set 25-19 before closing out the match with a 25-18 victory in the second match.
Closing out the day with Circle, McPherson fought hard but lost the first set 20-25 before the visitors ran away with the second set, winning 12-25 to give the Lady Bullpups a split for the day.
Leading the Lady Bullpups in recorded kills were Haely Hageman with 10 while Ava Romero had nine and Alex Romero finished with six.
Alex Romero had a strong day in general as she led the team in assists with 27 while also making 10 digs along with both Haely Hageman and Brooke Doile.
Besides her work making kills, Ava Romero led the Lady Bullpups in both digs and serve aces with 12 and four, respectively, while Josie Fitzmorris chipped in with 11 digs and both Addison Chapman and Addie Herrera made a pair of blocks.
The Lady Bullpup junior varsity won both of their matches, beating Winfield 25-21, 25-19 before going three sets before defeating Circle 17-25, 25-22, 25-15.
Next up for the varsity Lady Bullpup spikers will be Tuesday, September 13 when they join Augusta at Rose Hill for a triangular.
