GOESSEL – After scoring a big win in week one over Little River, the Canton/Galva football team kept the pedal to the medal in week two as they went on the road and buried Goessel 48-0.

The Eagles needed just three touchdowns in each of the first two quarters to put the game away by points rule at the halftime break.

Jett Vincent, the transfer who helped to dismantle Little River in week one, scored first for the Eagles on a 20-yard run with less than two minutes off the clock in the game.

Jaden Ediger then intercepted a pass by Goessel and rambled into the end zone for score number two of the first quarter. After Vincent made a dash of 35 yards for a score later in the quarter, the Eagles had themselves a commanding 24-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. All three two-point conversions were successful with Vincent running in two and then throwing the third to TJ Koehn.

Vincent connected with Cason Mastre for a 25-yard scoring pass just seconds into the second quarter followed by a two-point conversion run by Lane McMannis, the Eagles were up 32-0.

Less than two minutes later, McMannis returned intercepted another pass by Goessel and ran it into the end zone for score number five. McMannis converted the two-point conversion putting the Eagles up 40-0.

After Jaden Ediger dove in from the three-yard line for Canton/Galva’s sixth score of the first half, and then followed up by diving in for the two-point conversion, the Eagles were up 48-0 and had the points to end the game at the end of the first half by point rule.

For the game, the Eagles needed just 26 offensive plays, covering 202 yards and nine first downs to get the win. The lone disappointment in the stats would be the four penalties for 50 yards.

Leading the Eagles offense was Jett Vincent who ran the ball six times for 103 yards and two scores while also completing three of five passes for 33 yards and a third score. Jaden Ediger shared time from the quarterback position and completed four of five passes for another 36 yards. Cason Mastre was their top target making four receptions for 43 yards.

Defensively, the Eagles held Goessel to just 85 yards of offense on 28 plays or just 3.0 yards per attempt while forcing the home team into four turnovers, one on a fumble and three times on interceptions of which two were picked off by Lane McMannis.

Vincent topped the defense with 5.5 tackles while TJ Koehn recorded 4.5.

Now a convincing 2-0 on the season, the Eagles next will be back on the home field on Friday, September 16 when they host Solomon. Solomon will come into the game also 2-0 for the season with their offense outscoring opponents 98-16 in wins over Rural Vista and Wakefield.
