            SALINA – The McPherson Middle School girls tennis team traveled north to Salina on Tuesday and came home with a convincing 19-5 win over Salina South Middle School.

            “Tonight, the girls continued to show how much they have improved at tennis over the past year,” said head coach Paul Reichenberger. “All of the top 12 players on the team put in many hours this summer to improve their skills and it showed tonight.”

            Within the team victory, the Junior Lady Pups hammered Salina South Middle School 13-3 in singles matches and 6-2 on doubles.

            Nine girls finished their singles matches with perfect 6-0 scores including Avery Unruh, Audra Sandbo, Dragon Rodriguez, Quinn Leibl, Ava Miller, Emily Reno, Anne-Marie Holmes, Sophia Boese and Hayden Eveland.

            In the doubles division, five of the six wins came with 6-0 shutout scores.

            Coach Reichenberger concluded his post meet reflections by adding, “Their hard work and desire to get better has put them in a position to have a very successful season. It is our goal to win next weeks tournament and keep this great season going.”

            Next up for the Junior Lady Pups tennis team will be on Monday, September 19 when they go on the road for their first tournament of the season at Maize South Middle School where they will compete in an invitational with seven other schools.
